Pula. In Setswana, it means rain. It means blessing. It is the word Batswana shout in celebration, the name on our currency, and the prayer we offer to the sky. It is life itself.
At Pula Perspective, we believe that honest, fearless commentary on the issues that shape our nation is just as vital as rain.
Who We Are?
Pula Perspective is an independent Botswana publication covering politics, policy, current affairs, and social issues. We are not affiliated with any political party, government institution, or corporate interest. We answer to one group only — our readers.
We publish articles, a weekly newsletter called The Pula Dispatch, and a podcast that goes deeper into the stories that matter most to Batswana.
What We Stand For
Independence. We call it as we see it — no filter, no favour.
Accountability. Those in power must answer to the people. We ask the questions others won't.
Botswana First. Every story we tell is rooted in the lived reality of people on the ground — not in the boardroom, not in the capital alone, but across the whole nation.
Clarity. Politics and policy can be made complicated on purpose. We make it simple, sharp, and accessible to every Motswana.
What We Cover
Politics — elections, governance, leadership, and the decisions made in our name
Policy — what the government is doing, what it should be doing, and who it affects
Current Affairs — the news behind the news, with context and analysis
Social Issues — the human stories that statistics miss
The Pula Dispatch
Every week, we send out The Pula Dispatch — a free newsletter with our latest commentary, must-read articles, and what we're watching. Thousands of readers across Botswana and the diaspora start their week with it.
